Design and Display
The frame of the Moto Edge 40 is made of aluminum, but the back is either made of plastic or eco-leather — it depends on the model you pick.
Moving on to the front, it sports a big 6.55-inch P-OLED display that can refresh up to 144Hz and offers HDR10+. The screen-to-body ratio of this phone is an amazing 90.8%, meaning bezels so thin that they will make your jaw drop.

The Moto Edge also has an optical fingerprint scanner installed under the display, so there’s no latency between tapping and accessing your phone.
Features and performance
The Moto Edge 40 uses Mediatek’s Dimensity 8020 processor and Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. Motorola has used a HyperCrystal graphite cooling system for cooling the phone, which dissipates heat faster than the previous generation’s cooling system.
This phone’s 8GB of RAM is built on the LPDDR4X architecture, but the storage uses the latest UFS 3.1 architecture.

The Moto Edge 40 comes with Android 13 out of the box and is promised to receive major software updates for the next two years and three years of security updates.
Cameras
The Moto Edge 40 offers a dual camera setup: a primary wide camera and a secondary ultrawide camera.
The Moto Edge 40 uses a 50 MP sensor for the primary camera with a focal length of f/1.4. For the ultrawide camera, Motorola equips it with a 13 MP sensor with a focal length of f/2.2 and a field of view of 120°. You get a 32MP single selfie shooter which, just like the back camera, can record 4K videos at 30FPS.

This phone offers a few quirky features like blurring the background, allowing you to adjust the focal length and the background blur after taking the photo, using the instant all-pixel focus for fast autofocus.
The Moto Edge 40 offers “Quad Pixel Technology” for selfie lovers to enhance your photos during your night out.
Battery & Charging
The Moto Edge 40 comes with a 4400 mAh Li-Po battery and a 67W charger in the box. You can charge this phone in 10 minutes using Turbo Power Charging.
This phone also supports wireless charging, which is not a feature you expect from mid-range phones. The wireless charging is capped at 15W.
Alternatives to Moto Edge 40 – How does it stack up against competitors?

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is a good alternative to the Moto Edge 40. It has a sleek design, good performance and a three-camera setup. The Moto wins with a higher refresh rate on the screen, wireless charging and an official IP68 rating.
Weight: 208g | Thickness: 8.9mm | Screen: 6.67” 1080 x 2400 pixels, AMOLED, 120Hz | Processor: Octa-core Mediatek Dimensity 1080 | RAM: up to 12GB | Storage: up to 256GB | Cellular: 5G, Dual SIM | Rear camera: 200MP Triple Camera | Front camera: 16MP | Battery: 5000mAh, 120W Wired charging
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 12 Pro is priced much cheaper than the Moto Edge 40, so that’s the biggest advantage. It also has faster charging than the Moto and a potentially better processor. However, you won’t get wireless charging, a super fast 165Hz display or an official IP68 rating for protection against dust and water.
