Design
The 8th-gen Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 sports a similar design to its previous iterations. An all-aluminum chassis with a thin profile gives you the premium feel of a higher-end laptop.
Depending on your variant, these laptops can weigh between 1.4 to 2 kg, making them excellent on-the-go machines for students and professionals. You can also choose between Arctic Grey or Frost Blue for added personality.
With the latest models of the IdeaPad Pro 5, Lenovo uses 50% recycled aluminum for the bottom cover reducing the machine’s environmental footprint.
Display
Lenovo has chosen to use IPS panels for the IdeaPad Pro 5. The higher-tier variants can offer up to 2.8K HD resolution at 120 Hz refresh rate. Brightness levels of up to 400 nits and 100% sRGB colors provide excellent picture quality for most activities.
The larger 16-inch models come with Lenovo’s brand-new Dynamic Display Switch that automatically changes the frame rate of the display. This feature offers a smoother viewing experience, especially when set to 120 Hz.
Lenovo has also gone all-in with their Eyesafe Certification that reduces blue light making the displays easy on the eye even for long viewing sessions.
Performance
The 14-inch model is built on AMD’s next-generation mobile processors paired with AMD’s iGPUs. The laptop’s memory configuration clocks in at 16 GB or 32 GB of LPDDR5 or LPDDR5x.
Storage is the only thing that’s expandable on the IdeaPad Pro 5. The laptop has an additional slot for an M.2 SSD for high-speed read, write, and transfer operations.
One thing to note with the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 laptops is that they are powered with AMD’s Zen 4 cores and Radeon 700M graphics.
You can also expect the Rembrandt-refresh Zen3+ based processors with Radeon 600M graphics. This can get confusing since AMD has not yet released the full mobile CPU line-up that Lenovo will use for their next-gen machines.
We’ll take a deeper dive into these in the future once the laptops become available and we have more information on AMD’s latest chips, possibly after CES 2023.
Features to Look Out For
The latest generation IdeaPad Pro 5 sports a touchpad that’s 25% larger than its predecessors. The added size offers an improved navigation experience.
All models also come with a Full HD IR camera with a Time of Flight sensor for online meetings and Windows Hello logins. The webcam also features a built-in shutter for improved privacy.
There’s also an abundance of ports to choose from, especially USB 4.0, which offers high-speed data transfer for increased productivity. You can also expect the standard bevy of ports like a USB-A, USB-C, HDMI 2.1, audio jack, and an SD card reader.
Battery and Charging
The powerhouse of the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 is a 75 Wh battery. Coupled with the efficient latest-gen AMD mobile processors, you can expect extended runtimes on the laptop.
In case you forgot to charge your computer, these machines have a feature that adds hours to your battery life on a quick 15-minute charge. There’s also Smart Power, a feature that detects user behavior and determines the best performance mode to put your laptop. It adjusts performance, cooling, and power draw based on your usage characteristics.
Wrap Up
The 8th-generation Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 is an all-around laptop with speedy and efficient performance. It’s the laptop for students and professionals who want a lightweight but versatile machine for their productivity needs.
It will be a reliable daily driver that does not compromise on style, performance, battery life, and value.
