After roughly two years, Huawei has “upgraded” the MatePad 11 tablet. The 2021 edition of the Huawei MatePad 11 was an excellent tablet, and from what we get with the 2023 model, it appears that Huawei didn’t see much of a reason to change things.
The form factor is almost identical, with a slightly thinner, lighter design and a barely larger screen. The processor used on the 2023 model is the same as the 2021 model. However, Huawei dropped the lowest storage capacity model which was 64GB. The 2023 edition of the MatePad 11 comes with just one config which is with 6GB RAM and 128GB capacity.
You do get newer software in the form of HarmonyOS 3.1, which adds some software functionalities to the tablet.

Design & Display
The Huawei MatePad 11 is fairly lightweight for an 11-inch tablet at 480 grams. It’s also very thin at just 7.2 mm, making it easy to use with one hand. As you can see from the table above, those specs don’t sound very different to the outgoing model.

The same holds true for the display, which is now slightly larger at 11 inches. The screen has refresh rates up to 120Hz, making it smooth to scroll and use the stylus. It’s not an OLED display, but the IPS LCD is still pretty good, especially with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 which will make every appear super sharp.
Features & Performance
The spec that makes you wonder the most is the choice of the chipset that Huawei has used for the 2023 edition of the MatePad 11. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 is a decent processor, but it’s the exact same one that Huawei used on the 2021 model.
You get 6GB of RAM, allowing you to run multiple apps and navigate through them smoothly- especially with the 120Hz display. For storage, there is 128GB which should be good enough for most things this tablet is meant for, such as consuming media content, gaming and light productivity.

Speaking of multimedia, the Huawei MatePad 11 has four speakers which will certainly make the tablet a good device to watch videos on. There are also two microphones and an 8 MP camera on the front for clearer calls while the back side has a 12 MP camera for taking photos.
The Huawei MatePad 11 will run on HarmonyOS 3.1, which is the latest version of Huawei’s Android-based OS. Like other Huawei devices, you won’t get Google Mobile services on this tablet, which means that there is no access to Google Play Store. Instead, you will be downloading apps from Huawe’s App Gallery which has matured quite a bit in the last couple of years and has most of the regional apps available for it.
The Huawei MatePad 11 comes with a 7,250 mAh battery that should allow you a full day of usage. Also included in the box is a 10V/2.25A charger that supports fast charging the tablet.
Wrap Up
The Huawei MatePad 11 is a decent tablet with good specs and a good price point. However, its not much of an upgrade over the 2021 model. If you already have that model, then there’s no real reason to upgrade. Alternatively, if you can find the older model at a noticeably lower price then that could also be a better option.
