Apple has warned users not to sleep with their iPhones while charging. The warning, part of Apple’s online user guide, also applies to people who fall asleep while holding their iPhones.
“Don’t sleep on a device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body when connected to a power source,” Apple said in its guide.
Apple also said iPhones should only be charged on well-ventilated and flat surfaces like tables, not on soft surfaces like blankets, pillows, or your body. This is because the device produces heat when charging, and it needs to be released easily to avoid overheating.
Overheating can cause burns or even fires in extreme cases. Therefore, putting a charging iPhone under your pillow is very dangerous.
Apple also advised users not to use damaged cables or chargers or charge their iPhones when moisture is present- such as humidity which can be at fairly high levels in the UAE, especially around August and September.
Besides not sleeping while charging, Apple has also told users to stop using their power adapters in wet areas near a sink, bathtub, or shower. They also recommend not disconnecting it with wet hands for your safety.
After several studies have shown the potential risks of sleeping near mobile phones affecting your health and well-being, it’s understandable that Apple has made these warnings public.
