Dell has always been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to laptops, and the new Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 2024 are no exception. We’re all familiar with their odd-numbered line from the classic XPS 13, XPS 15, and XPS 17.

  • Larger Sizes – Compared to last year’s Dell XPS 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, the larger 14-inch and 16-inch sizes allow better cooling and faster components.
  • Intel Core Ultra Processors – These fast powerhouses with impeccable power efficiency allow the XPS line to open browsers, crunch spreadsheets, and edit 4K videos without sweat.
  • Nvidia RTX Graphics – The addition of discrete graphics cards now makes the XPS line bonafide gaming machines. They’re also great creative workstations for professionals on the road.
  • OLED InfinityEdge Touch Displays – These stunning displays cover almost the entire laptop’s surface for a more immersive experience. The wide colour gamut and fast refresh rate make these machines a joy to do creative work in.
  • Thunderbolt ports – Fast transfer rates, connect multiple displays and charge them in a flash. You get these with multiple Thunderbolt ports on your Dell machines, making them more versatile for your different needs.

Now, what difference does one inch make between the XPS 13 and XPS 14? Since you can argue, they’re similar in size. One word: performance. On the XPS 13 chassis, there’s no way to configure it to include a discrete GPU.

However, with the launch of the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, adding a tiny bit of space makes it possible with the XPS 14. It can now handle the RTX 4050 for an added graphics boost. The same applies to the XPS 16, as the extra real estate allows it to use an RTX 4070.

Let’s look at these laptops and see what makes them stand out from the crowd of new laptop announcements.

Design and Build

In 2022, Dell announced an alternate model to the XPS 13. It came with a facelifted design that was geared the laptop towards the future. In 2024, we can say that the future has arrived since the Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 2024 have a similar design language to the Plus model.

If you’re a fan of the XPS series, you don’t have to worry about a thing since you still get that sleek and elegant design. It’s a little different than you’re used to, but they retain that simple, minimalist look on a thin and durable frame.

There’s no shortage of ports with both XPS 14 and XPS 16 models. However, the focus is on the three Thunderbolt 4 ports that support charging, data transfer, and display output. The lack of a USB-A port is noticeable, which might be inconvenient for some users. Dell has included an adapter, though.

As with most new laptops, OLED takes centre stage on the Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 2024. Both devices come with amazing displays, and this is one of the main reasons to get them. The XPS 14 sports a 14.5-inch 3.2K OLED InfinityEdge touch display, while the XPS 16 gets a similar 16.3-inch 4K panel.

It’s not an XPS laptop if it doesn’t come with thin bezels, and you’re getting exactly that with these models. It creates an immersive viewing experience no matter what content you’re watching.

The displays are not just about style; they’re also functional. Rated at 100% DCI-P3, they have impeccable colour accuracy, perfect for watching videos, creative work, and even gaming.

The increase in size for the XPS line meant they could now pack more powerful hardware while remaining thin and light. Powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, the improved CPU thermals now allow them to include discrete graphics, particularly the RTX 4050 and RTX 4070.

The advantage of having the latest Nvidia hardware is that they also support Nvidia’s Studio drivers, which optimize their performance and stability for creative applications. Now, you can game and edit videos on your XPS laptop.

The main reason for the slight size increase is to give the new Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 2024 line some performance leeway. There’s virtually no task that can stop these laptops. The built-in AI features from the Core Ultra’s NPU chip make complex tasks like photo editing much quicker.

Applications launch in a blink, and multitasking is a breeze, even when you’ve opened multiple browser tabs. Demanding workloads like video editing and rendering will not be much of a problem with the Dell XPS 14 or XPS 16 2024.

XPS laptops always had impressive battery life, even with their high-resolution displays. But, with the introduction of the Intel Core Ultra processors, this will stretch it even more. According to Dell, the smaller XPS 14 can go up to 14 hours on a single charge, even with a discrete Nvidia graphics card.

The XPS 16, on the other hand, can last up to 12 hours on moderate usage, even with the 4K OLED panel. These laptops will easily last a full day’s work on a single charge. However, if you need to charge, Dell has equipped them with a fast charging feature to fill up to 80% of the battery by plugging it in for an hour.

Should You Buy the Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 2024

The Dell XPS 14 and XPS 16 2024 are powerful laptops that offer a lot of value for their price. Their futuristic, elegant design and stunning display make it the perfect machine for on-the-go professionals who want a portable powerhouse.

If you’re looking for a machine that can handle demanding tasks that you can bring and lasts more than a day, we recommend the XPS 14. However, if you crave ultimate performance with a larger display for immersive content creation, the XPS 16 might be worth the extra dirhams.
