TCL’s P80 Ultra is the company’s first NxtPaper phone with an AMOLED display, bringing a paper-like reading mode to a 6.83-inch panel with flagship-style brightness and colour coverage. The P80 Pro gets the same display, while the cheaper P80 drops TCL’s eye-comfort layer.
The phones launched in Europe on 3 September, with Latin American availability planned for October and a US launch to follow later, according to The Verge. TCL has not announced UAE pricing or availability, so local buyers will need to wait for a regional listing.
TCL P80 Ultra brings NxtPaper to AMOLED
The TCL P80 Ultra pairs NxtPaper technology with a 6.83-inch AMOLED display running at 1.5K resolution and 120Hz. TCL says the panel reaches 3,200 nits at peak brightness and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space. GSMArena’s report adds that the phone uses circular polarisation and reduces blue light without changing the display’s colour output, while TCL’s official technology announcement explains the eye-comfort approach behind it.
Pressing the dedicated NxtPaper Key switches the phone into Max Ink Mode. The monochrome interface limits notifications and background activity, turning the P80 Ultra into a more focused reading device. TCL says the mode can deliver up to seven days of active reading and up to 26 days of standby time, with more than 500 books pre-loaded.
The Ultra uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite chipset, 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. Its 5,800mAh battery supports 45W wired charging. The rear camera system combines a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto and an 8MP ultrawide; the front camera is 32MP.
P80 Pro keeps the screen, drops the zoom
The P80 Pro shares the Ultra’s NxtPaper AMOLED display, chipset, storage options, battery and charging speed. Its main compromise is the camera system: it keeps the 50MP OIS main camera and 8MP ultrawide but leaves out the 3x periscope.
The base P80 also uses a 6.83-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED panel, but it does not include NxtPaper features. It starts with 128GB of storage, reaches 256GB and uses a smaller 5,000mAh battery. All three phones run Android 16. TCL promises four OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Ultra and Pro, while the base P80 receives one fewer OS upgrade.
TCL P80 Ultra price and UAE availability
The TCL P80 Ultra starts at €549, while the P80 Pro starts at €429 and the P80 at €349. GSMArena reports a slightly different Ultra starting price of €550, so the final figure may depend on market or configuration. At the time of writing, TCL has not listed the P80 range on its global mobile product page for UAE purchase, and no UAE price has been announced.
That leaves the P80 Ultra as an interesting display experiment rather than a confirmed UAE buy. It offers the choice between a bright, fast AMOLED screen and a stripped-back reading mode without carrying a second device, provided TCL brings the range to local shops.
