The Taylor Swift SNL cameo arrived during Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue on Saturday, Oct. 3, with Swift appearing as the host’s “literal therapist” after Johnson joked about her dating history. The exchange brought their recent on-screen partnership into the monologue, with Swift correcting the job title before delivering her version of support.
Johnson said her friends supported her and did not judge her for dating musicians. Swift pushed back:
“I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some.”

Johnson said she had manners; Swift added that she listens to Johnson overshare, offers a “Damn, that’s crazy” and eventually sends her home with Pedialyte and a security escort, according to Variety’s report.
The show’s official account posted the monologue clip, and the episode’s musical guest was Turnstile, not Swift. Johnson was hosting for the third time; she previously fronted the programme in 2015 and 2024, as The Hollywood Reporter notes.
Taylor Swift SNL cameo follows Patient Zero
That Taylor Swift SNL cameo followed the pair’s work on “Patient Zero”, Swift’s music video released on Sept. 27. Johnson starred opposite Colin Farrell, while Swift directed and appeared in the video. The two appearances put the friends together on screen twice in a week, after a quieter stretch for their collaborations.
tbreak previously covered Swift’s Patient Zero single announcement and her Toy Story 5 song.
Swift’s SNL appearance was a cameo, not a performance slot
Swift has a longer history with SNL, but this was a monologue cameo rather than a performance slot.
Johnson also wished Swift a happy birthday as the show crossed midnight in New York, with her own birthday falling on Sunday, Oct. 4. The episode was hosted by Johnson, with Turnstile as musical guest.
Had Taylor Swift appeared on SNL before this cameo?
Yes. Variety reports that Swift last appeared on screen in October 2023, when she introduced musical guest Ice Spice. She has hosted the programme once, in 2009.
What is the Patient Zero video about?
Swift’s video stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell as a wealthy couple whose marriage is in trouble. Swift appears as a spectral figure warning Johnson’s character, according to Variety.
