Take-Two reiterates $8 billion bookings forecast as GTA 6 launch nears

Take-Two has reaffirmed $8–8.2 billion in FY2027 bookings ahead of GTA 6's November 19 launch — a record the game is expected to carry.

Take-Two Interactive still expects $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings for fiscal 2027 — a record that assumes Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives on November 19. The publisher’s fiscal first-quarter results, out today, came in at $1.39 billion in net bookings, slightly above its own guidance, per the official release.

The quarter ended June 30 was otherwise unremarkable: net bookings fell 3% year on year, GAAP net revenue rose to $1.53 billion, and the company reported a $34.1 million net loss against an $11.9 million loss a year earlier. That loss includes a $43.4 million impairment charge for an unannounced third-party title Take-Two has decided not to finish.

GTA 6 pre-orders opened on June 25, so the quarter captures a few days of enthusiasm and none of the money. The money is expected to arrive with the launch.

“Our excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels. With these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion.” — Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two

The forecast has not moved, and the reason for it ships on November 19.

Why GTA 6 dominates the forecast

Fiscal 2026 delivered $6.72 billion in net bookings. The $8.0–8.2 billion range for the year ending March 2027 is roughly a 20% jump, and Take-Two attributes it primarily to GTA 6’s launch. Analysts already expect the game to sell up to 51 million copies in its first week.

MetricQ1 FY2027FY2027 outlook
Net bookings$1.39 billion$8.0–8.2 billion
GAAP net revenue$1.53 billion$7.9–8.1 billion
GAAP net income–$34.1 million$104–143 million

For the September quarter, Take-Two guides bookings of $1.62–1.67 billion — the last quarter before the launch lands in the books. The same presentation put lifetime sales at over 230 million for Grand Theft Auto V and over 87 million for Red Dead Redemption 2.

A write-off, and a pipeline that still runs

The $43.4 million charge came from a decision not to continue development of an unannounced title from a third-party developer. Take-Two said on the earnings call, via VGC, that Judas and Project Ethos remain on track, though neither has a release date.

What is net bookings?

Net bookings is the value of products and services sold during a period — digital sales, physical sell-in, licensing, merchandise, in-game advertising and publisher incentives. It is Take-Two’s operational metric and differs from GAAP revenue, which recognises some of that money later.

How much will GTA 6 cost in the UAE?

The standard edition is $79.99 (about AED 295) and the Ultimate Edition is $99.99 (about AED 370), per Khaleej Times, before local taxes and retailer pricing. Pre-orders are open on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, with physical copies expected at Virgin Megastore, Jumbo, Geekay and Amazon UAE.

Why were Take-Two’s bookings down if GTA 6 pre-orders are open?

Pre-orders only opened on June 25, five days before the quarter closed, and the launch itself lands in fiscal Q3. Take-Two’s outlook has the full year — and the November launch — carrying the GTA 6 effect, not the June quarter.
