Aspyr has announced DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered, a rebuild of the 2004 movie tie-in that launches on 10 November on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch and PC. Gematsu reports that the PC release covers both Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a USD 29.99 price tag. The reveal came through an announcement trailer that parodies the GTA 6 trailers.
The timing is the joke. VGC notes the remaster lands just nine days before Rockstar’s game, so Aspyr is borrowing the look of the most-watched trailers in gaming. As we reported earlier, a former developer has warned that GTA 6’s final graphics won’t match its trailer visuals, a problem a swamp-dwelling ogre doesn’t have.
What Aspyr has changed
The game’s Steam page says Aspyr has rebuilt everything with better textures, an enhanced UI, 4K resolution and cutscenes. New additions include a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode, and players can swap heroes at any time to use each character’s abilities against enemies, bosses and environmental puzzles. VGC adds that 4K applies on every platform except the original Switch.
The co-op is the main draw. The Steam listing says the game supports up to four players on the couch, online, or a mix of both, and it’s playable solo. That matches the console version of Shrek 2 that Aspyr is remastering. VGC explains that this was an action game where players controlled a team of four characters, each with their own abilities. The 2004 PC version was a different game: a single-player 3D platformer. VGC says the console original sold more than 4 million units.
PC players should check the specs before pre-ordering. The Steam page lists a minimum of a Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-12400F, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti/RTX 4060 or Radeon RX 6700 XT/RX 7600, and 12 GB of storage. Recommended specs step up to a Ryzen 7 7700X or Core i7-13700K, and an RTX 4070/RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 7800 XT/RX 9070 with 12-16 GB of VRAM. That’s a lot of hardware for a game that began on the PlayStation 2.
Price and pre-orders
Steam lists the game at USD 29.99, with a 10% pre-purchase promotion that drops it to USD 26.99 until 17 November. Pre-orders are live, which sets it apart from that fake GTA 6 pre-order listing that did the rounds earlier.
Why now
VGC suggests the remaster may have been meant to accompany Shrek 5, the first main film in the series since Shrek Forever After 16 years ago. According to VGC, the film was due in July 2026, was pushed to December 2026, and is now set for 30 June 2027. If the game was tied to the earlier dates, it has outlived two of them. Aspyr is releasing it anyway, in a month already crowded with big releases.
When does Shrek 2 Remastered come out, and on what?
It launches on 10 November on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch and PC, where it’s listed on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
How much does it cost, and is there UAE pricing?
The Steam page we checked lists USD 29.99, or USD 26.99 with the pre-purchase discount until 17 November. We haven’t seen UAE-specific pricing, so check your regional store before buying.
Is this the same game as the 2004 PC version?
No. VGC says the PC release in 2004 was a single-player 3D platformer, while this remaster is based on the console action game with four playable characters and co-op for up to four players.
