Resident Evil Veronica Brings Claire Redfield Back in 2027

The survival-horror remake will revisit Claire Redfield’s escape from Rockfort Island with modernised gameplay and visuals powered by Capcom’s RE Engine.

Resident Evil Veronica Brings Claire Redfield Back in 2027

Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the cult-classic Resident Evil: Code: Veronica, during Summer Game Fest 2026.

The game is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Capcom has not yet announced a more specific release date.

Resident Evil Veronica Reveal Trailer Brings Back Claire Redfield

The reveal trailer initially keeps the identity of its lead character hidden. It follows an unnamed woman as she is shown around an apartment in Paris, with the footage gradually offering clues that she is searching for her brother while he is away on a secret mission.

By the end of the trailer, the character is revealed to be Claire Redfield, confirming that Resident Evil Veronica is a reimagining of the original Code: Veronica story rather than an entirely new entry in the series.

The announcement is unlikely to come as a major surprise for fans who have been following the rumours surrounding Capcom’s next remake. Previous reports had already pointed towards a new version of Code: Veronica being in development, with a possible 2027 release window.

However, Summer Game Fest 2026 marks the first time that Capcom has formally confirmed the project.

Code: Veronica Is an Important Part of the Resident Evil Story

Originally released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, Resident Evil: Code: Veronica is not a numbered mainline instalment, but it remains an important part of the wider Resident Evil storyline.

The original game takes place around the same period as Resident Evil 3 and follows Claire Redfield as she continues searching for her brother, Chris Redfield. The story eventually brings both characters together across a remote prison island and Antarctica, with series antagonist Albert Wesker also playing a role.

Despite its significance to the series, Code: Veronica has not received the same modern remake treatment as Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. That will finally change when Resident Evil Veronica arrives in 2027.

Capcom has not yet confirmed how extensively the remake will alter the original game’s locations, structure or storyline. However, the Paris setting shown in the first trailer suggests that this will be more than a straightforward visual upgrade.

Resident Evil Veronica Platforms Confirmed

Resident Evil Veronica will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

A specific launch date has not yet been announced, but Capcom has confirmed that the remake is planned for release at some point in 2027.
