Pocket FM has doubled its annualised revenue run rate to $500 million in a year, while artificial intelligence now powers 93% of its audio catalogue and 99% of its new content, according to TechCrunch.

The Indian audio storytelling platform still uses human creators for the ideas and stories. Pocket FM AI is used to turn those concepts into finished audio at scale, rather than replacing the creative process altogether. The company’s announcement also puts the milestone in the context of its wider entertainment business.

Pocket FM AI content now reaches 250 million listeners

Pocket FM says more than 550,000 creators now produce about 2.5 million hours of AI-powered content a year. Its library has grown to more than 770,000 audio series, compared with about 100,000 hours of content across the entire catalogue two years ago.

The platform has more than 250 million listeners across over 20 countries. The United States is its largest market, accounting for about 70% of the annualised revenue run rate, while Pocket FM has also expanded into the UK, Germany and France.

How Pocket FM uses AI to cut production time

Co-founder and CEO Rohan Nayak told TechCrunch that AI has made content production about 80 times cheaper. One hundred hours of content that previously took about a year can now be produced in a day, according to the company.

“We want to create great IPs that last 100 years, and that needs humans.”

Pocket FM’s AI head, Vasu Sharma, said the company trained its own models for creative writing and text-to-speech using production data and signals from how listeners engage with stories. The company says its 12-month revenue retention rate has risen to 76%, up from 44% two years ago.

Pocket FM’s parent company, Pocket Entertainment, is also moving beyond audio. Its microdrama app Pocket Saga has reached an annualised revenue run rate of about $15 million, although it is currently available only in the United States and its content is entirely AI-produced.

The company plans to expand into at least two more entertainment formats over the next five years. It is also discussing a possible funding round, but Nayak said it does not plan to go public within the next 24 months.
