OpenClaw 2.0 is the largest release yet for the open-source AI platform, adding simpler onboarding, a rebuilt browser app and shared cloud sessions for team work. The release was built by 933 contributors, including 569 first-time contributors, across more than 16,000 pull requests, according to the OpenClaw announcement.
OpenClaw 2.0 makes setup less of a ceremony
The new installer checks for resources already available on a computer, including ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions, API keys and local models. OpenClaw says it has cut or moved much of the initial configuration so users can reach a first conversation sooner and finish setting up the assistant through chat.
The browser app has been rebuilt as a first-class way to use the platform. It opens directly into a conversation, supports ongoing setup and lets users follow work as it happens. A Session Rail shows progress, ratings, plan status and pull requests, while a companion thread provides a separate place to ask about the current session without interrupting the agent.
Shared cloud sessions bring another person into the work
Shared cloud sessions let multiple users join a task, contribute with the existing context or take over work already in progress. OpenClaw says its own team uses the feature while building the platform. Sessions can run on a local gateway, paired hardware or disposable cloud machines provisioned through Crabbox, with provider credentials remaining on the gateway, according to the release documentation.
The release also includes changes to memory, skills, models, messaging, automations, native apps, plugins and security. The Decoder’s report notes that the shared-session feature is aimed at collaborative work rather than simply giving an agent another place to run.
For UAE developers and teams, the useful change is the lower barrier to testing a self-hosted agent workflow and handing an active task between people.
