Ewan McGregor wants to spend the rest of his career playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he has said so directly to the people who decide such things. In an interview with E! News, as reported by IGN, the actor said he is ready for more of the character whenever Disney is.

McGregor was asked about recent comments that a decade of Obi-Wan stories remain to be told. The pitch is a specific one. The 2022 series ended with him walking into the desert, leaving Luke with Owen and Beru; the next time audiences see the character, he is Alec Guinness on a mountaintop. Everything between those two moments is the gap he wants to fill.
“What happens between those two moments is what I want to do and spend the rest of my career doing these stories. Stories, you know, series or movies. We’ve got plenty of time; I’ve got 10 years before I am Alec Guinness’ age. So come on, Disney!”

The countdown is his: McGregor is 55, and Guinness was in his sixties when A New Hope was made. Disney has not responded, publicly at least. The company has pulled back on live-action Star Wars shows in recent years, and the 2022 limited series — six episodes, generally well received, initially planned as a trilogy of films before Disney+ became the priority — has no announced second season.
What happens to Obi-Wan Kenobi next?
A film is not out of the question, but it may depend on how Star Wars: Starfighter performs next year. The Mandalorian and Grogu was a major flop, and Disney has already conceded that Moana and the Mandalorian underperformed; another miss on the big screen would not strengthen McGregor’s case.
