What did Michael B. Jordan say about David Jonsson?
Michael B. Jordan reportedly said he loves the idea of David Jonsson becoming a future Black Panther and is eager to see it happen.
During a red-carpet exchange attributed to The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan was asked for his reaction to Jonsson’s reported casting. His response was brief, emphatic, and refreshingly free of the usual franchise-trained verbal gymnastics: “I can’t wait, can’t wait!”
Jordan’s reaction still makes perfect sense in context. He played Erik Killmonger in Black Panther and returned in a vision sequence in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Jordan also has a long creative history with director Ryan Coogler, having appeared in Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the first Black Panther, and, most recently, Sinners, which earned the pair Oscars. If anyone outside Wakanda gets to offer an approving nod here, Killmonger has a reasonably strong claim.
Is David Jonsson officially the next Black Panther?
David Jonsson’s status as the next Black Panther remains reported rather than fully settled by independently located Marvel material.
The report carrying Jordan’s comments says Jonsson has been cast as T’Challa’s son and will inherit the mantle. Our earlier Comic-Con report on Black Panther 3 and David Jonsson carried the same casting claim. However, independent research did not locate a Marvel Studios announcement or major trade report confirming his exact role and title.
That uncertainty also applies to when Jonsson might first appear. The supplied report raises Black Panther 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars as possibilities, but no independently corroborated debut has been established. For now, the casting conversation is running ahead of the publicly verified MCU paperwork — an occupational hazard for superhero news.
What does the existing MCU story establish?
The released MCU films establish Shuri as Black Panther and introduce T’Challa’s young son, but they do not show that son inheriting the mantle.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever follows Shuri as she recreates the Heart-Shaped Herb and becomes Black Panther. Its mid-credits scene reveals that T’Challa and Nakia had a son named Toussaint, whose Wakandan name is T’Challa. The character is still a child in that appearance.
Jonsson would nevertheless be an exciting choice for a larger MCU role. He played Gus Sackey in Industry, led the romantic comedy Rye Lane, and became the emotional centre of Alien: Romulus as Andy. He also won the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2025, with The Guardian’s profile of Jonsson tracing his rise across those projects.
Jordan’s enthusiasm therefore lands even while the MCU details remain fuzzy. Jonsson has already shown that he can bring vulnerability, humour, and unease to blockbuster genre material. Marvel confirming exactly whom he is playing would be the useful next scene.
