Marvel’s SDCC Announcements: Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider, New Black Panther and More

Marvel’s SDCC panel confirmed Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3 for 2028, and Deadpool and Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday.

What did Marvel announce at SDCC 2026?

Marvel announced a Ryan Gosling-led Ghost Rider movie, Black Panther 3 for 2028, and two significant additions to Avengers: Doomsday.

The news came from Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation. The panel mixed genuinely new announcements with updates to projects already on Marvel’s calendar — because even superheroes occasionally need help keeping track of the MCU.

Avengers: DoomsdayDecember 18, 2026Deadpool and Peggy Carter are confirmed, alongside new Hall H footage.

Ryan Coogler appeared on stage to announce Black Panther 3. Letitia Wright and Winston Duke joined him, while Coogler revealed that the son of T’Challa, the character played by Chadwick Boseman, will come of age in the film. David Jonsson was then introduced as the new Black Panther.

Ghost Rider received a splashy casting reveal but fewer practical details. Gosling is attached to play the title character in a new movie, but Marvel did not announce its final title, release date, or position within the wider MCU slate.

What changed for Avengers: Doomsday?

Avengers: Doomsday added Deadpool and Peggy Carter to its confirmed line-up and revealed exclusive footage featuring Doctor Doom, several heroes, and Sentinels.

The film’s title, December 18, 2026 release date, Russo brothers directing team, and Robert Downey Jr. casting as Doctor Doom were established before this panel. Marvel had also previously announced a large cast that included Channing Tatum’s Gambit and several returning X-Men actors.

The Hall H presentation provided the new confirmations. Ryan Reynolds appeared in a grey Deadpool costume, confirming Deadpool’s role, while Hayley Atwell joined the actors on stage and was identified as part of the film. The Avengers roll call is now becoming a convention schedule in its own right.

The exclusive footage showed Doom seated on a throne, while Sue Storm described the losses that shaped him. Thor, Shang-Chi, Shuri, and Gambit appeared in rapid shots before an army of dormant Sentinels rose from the ground. Marvel had already given audiences a clearer look at Downey’s villain in the first proper Avengers: Doomsday trailer; the Hall H material pushed further into his relationship with the film’s heroes.

Marvel did not announce new information about Avengers: Secret Wars or a separate X-Men movie. That keeps the panel focused on Doomsday rather than turning it into another five-year wall of logos, which is probably healthier for everyone involved.
