Lexar Muse is 1mm thin, but it skips USB-C

Lexar has announced the Lexar Muse portable SSD, a drive that tapers to just 1mm at its edge and attaches to compatible phones with magnets. The company unveiled it at IFA 2026; Gizmochina reports that the drive uses a separate magnetic cable rather than putting a standard USB-C port on the SSD itself. Lexar’s announcement confirms the design and the product’s mobile-recording focus.

The Muse measures 80 x 48 x 3.8mm at its thickest point and weighs 26.5g, while its edges taper to 1mm. That is thinner than the physical space normally needed for a USB-C receptacle, so Lexar uses a proprietary PogoPin connection instead. The supplied SnapLink Magnetic Cable connects the drive to a USB-C phone, tablet, Mac or PC,

The drive sits inside a magnetic sleeve that can attach to MagSafe-compatible iPhones. Lexar says the Muse supports direct recording of Apple ProRes 4K video at up to 120fps on compatible iPhone models. It also supports file transfers, backups and extra storage for mobile workflows.

Lexar lists read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s. The drive will come in 512GB and 1TB capacities from Q4 2026, although the company has not announced pricing.

That cable is the price of the thinness: lose it and a standard USB-C lead cannot plug directly into the drive. The trade-off may suit phone-based filming, where keeping the storage flat against the handset is more useful than having a universally replaceable cable.

UAE pricing and availability have not been announced. Lexar’s release says regional availability may vary, so local buyers will need to wait for a UAE listing rather than rely on a converted overseas price. Lexar’s 1TB MicroSD Express Card is already available in the UAE, while Samsung’s P9 and P7 portable SSDs show the more conventional USB-C/USB4 approach to portable storage.
