Google Home MCP gives third-party AI agents direct access to connected devices, live states and historical events, allowing tools such as Claude, OpenClaw and Hermes to monitor a home, run supported commands and build custom dashboards. Google is opening the feature in early access, but the first rollout is limited to Google Home Premium Advanced subscribers in the US.
What Google Home MCP lets AI agents do
Google’s Home MCP server exposes tools for discovering homes and devices, checking real-time states, running device actions and querying historical state changes. An agent could use that access to answer questions about camera events, device activity or energy use, then send a voice message through a Google Home speaker when a task is complete.
The integration is separate from Gemini for Home, Google’s own assistant for the Home app and Nest speakers. MCP instead provides a standard connection for compatible third-party clients, with setup requiring a Google Cloud project, Home API access and OAuth credentials.
Google Home MCP is not available in the UAE yet
Google says the early-access rollout is limited to US users with Google Home Premium Advanced. The official developer documentation also lists an active Premium Advanced subscription as a prerequisite, so there is no confirmed UAE launch, price or sign-up route to report yet.
That makes the privacy controls more important than the novelty. Home MCP can expose device data, event history and, where separately authorised, familiar-face data. Google says it applies rate limits and blocks sensitive actions such as unlocking doors, while warning that an agent can still produce unexpected behaviour. Access can be revoked through the Google Home app or the user’s account settings.
Google’s smart-home strategy already includes Gemini for Home, which began early access in October 2025 and is designed to replace Google Assistant on existing speakers and displays over time. Home MCP moves the control layer beyond Google’s own assistant, provided users are comfortable giving another agent the keys — metaphorically, at least.
