When is God of War Laufey being released?
God of War Laufey will launch for PS5 on 16 February 2027. PlayStation confirmed the date and said the game is available to wishlist now in an official announcement.
The exact date is the main addition to what Sony showed during the game’s June State of Play reveal. That presentation included more than 20 minutes of gameplay but stopped short of providing a specific launch date.

What is God of War Laufey about?
God of War Laufey follows Faye, also known as Laufey the Just, after she awakens in a strange land following her funeral. She discovers that her plans to protect Kratos and Atreus are at risk and must fight through the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods from different mythologies compete for power.
The change in lead character gives the first mainline God of War starring someone other than Kratos to Faye, his Norse wife and Atreus’s mother. She was central to the events surrounding 2018’s God of War despite dying before that game’s story began.
The shift also gives Sony Santa Monica room to develop Faye beyond her earlier role in Kratos and Atreus’s history. Cory Barlog described Laufey as a continuation of the existing story that will expand the series and prepare what follows.
Is Kratos returning in the next God of War?
Kratos will star in the next God of War after Laufey, according to Sony Santa Monica creative head Cory Barlog. Speaking during a San Diego Comic-Con panel, Barlog also said that the next instalment would connect directly to Laufey’s story, as reported by Video Games Chronicle.
