The Geely EX5 EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV has launched in UAE starting at Dhs 89,900 — and for a 317hp PHEV with 1,065km total range, that’s seriously competitive pricing. According to AGMC’s press release, this launch marks Geely’s major push into the UAE’s sustainable mobility market, with dedicated NEV showrooms and service centres rolling out nationwide.
What you get for Dhs 89,900
The EX5 EM-i’s hybrid system combines a 1.5L petrol engine with a 29.8kWh battery pack, delivering 317hp and 387Nm of torque. That’s proper performance territory. On pure electric power, you’ll get 170km of range — perfect for Dubai commutes without burning any fuel. When the battery runs low, the system switches seamlessly to hybrid mode for up to 1,065km total range.
Fuel consumption is as low as 4.3L/100km in hybrid mode, which is ballistically efficient for a 317hp SUV. The engine achieves 46.5% thermal efficiency — that’s genuinely impressive tech hiding under the bonnet.
Interior and tech setup
Inside, Geely’s packed over 30 storage solutions into this thing. Boot capacity is 428 litres, plus another 100 litres of underfloor storage. Fold the seats down, and you’re looking at 2,056 litres total — that’s properly practical for UAE families.
The Flyme Auto system handles infotainment via voice commands, whilst a 16-speaker setup handles audio. The Geely app lets you pre-cool the cabin remotely — how useful is that in 45°C temperatures? The MAX+ variant adds a panoramic sunroof, 15.4-inch display, and 256-colour ambient lighting, though pricing for this trim hasn’t been confirmed yet.
There’s even a camping mode that optimises lighting and music, plus provides an external power supply. Perfect for those weekend desert trips.
Safety credentials check out
This isn’t just another budget PHEV — the EX5 EM-i earned five-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP. That’s proper safety credibility. The structure uses what Geely calls a ‘cloverleaf force-dispersing concept’ with six airbags, including side curtains.
Active safety is provided by 360-degree cameras and dual millimetre-wave radars for lane assistance and collision mitigation. The battery pack gets ‘sandwich’ underguard protection, tested in over 100 extreme conditions. For a sub-Dhs 90k vehicle, that’s a comprehensive safety kit.
UAE context and competition
At Dhs 89,900, the EX5 EM-i undercuts most plug-in hybrid options in UAE. Recent PHEV launches like the Chery Tiggo 9 command higher prices, whilst the Chevrolet Captiva PHEV is still pending regional arrival.
AGMC’s serious about supporting this launch — they’re investing in dedicated Geely NEV showrooms and training technicians specifically for hybrid/EV technology. With UAE’s push toward sustainable transport and expanding charging infrastructure, the timing makes sense.
“We are delighted to bring the GEELY EX5 EM-i to the UAE market,” says Dr Andreas Schaaf, Group Director at Albatha Automotive Group. “The time is right for an affordable, stylish compact SUV that supports our customers’ busy lifestyles, while being at the forefront of green technology.”
Geely EX5 EM-i price in UAE
The EX5 EM-i is available now from all AGMC Geely showrooms across UAE. Standard trim starts at Dhs 89,900, whilst the MAX+ variant pricing hasn’t been announced yet. Given the spec differences — panoramic roof, larger infotainment, ambient lighting — expect the MAX+ to land somewhere around Dhs 110,000-120,000.
At Dhs 89,900, you’re getting proper hybrid performance, excellent safety ratings, and comprehensive warranty coverage. From a cost-of-ownership standpoint, that 4.3L/100km fuel consumption will save serious money at the pumps. Visit geely.ae for full details and showroom locations.
