Final Fantasy 14 is finally heading to Xbox consoles…13 years after the game’s release.
During the recently held Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2023, Xbox’s boss Phil Spencer took to the stage at the end of the keynote to announce the news. He spoke about his own experience of the game and reaffirmed the close collaboration between Xbox and Square Enix to make the best version of the game available on the consoles.

To that effect, the Xbox Series X and S versions of Final Fantasy 14 will feature faster loading, cross-platform play (between PC and PS5), and 4K support on the Xbox Series X. The game is scheduled to release in Spring 2024, with an open beta for patch 6.5. The release window also means that the game’s upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, will be playable on Xbox when it launches in the Summer of 2024.
Dawntrail is set to include numerous updates, including a major graphical overhaul (across all platforms), new jobs, a “New World” called Tural with a summer vacation home, and more.
Square Enix’s MMO has had a tumultuous journey since its release in 2010. First launched in a messy state and deemed a failure, Square Enix later revamped the entire game and rebranded it as A Realm Reborn, which was praised by critics and fans alike. Since then, it has released multiple critically acclaimed expansions, and the game is even more popular than it was before.
