Microsoft hosted its first Xbox Direct for 2024, drawing a clear picture of what fans can expect from Xbox as the year unfolds.


The presentation unveiled Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, Machine Game’s upcoming first-person adventure game, as well as the dropped release date for HellBlade 2, a deeper look into Obsidian’s Avowed, an update on Visions of Mana, and more.

Xbox Direct 2024: Everything Announced

Indiana Jones Officially Revealed

We finally saw what Machine Games have been cooking with the Indiana Jones game. Officially titled Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, the game is set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, where players will step into the shoes of the titular hero (who looks like Harrison Ford!), in a “single-player, narrative-driven journey that spans the globe during the height of the legendary archaeologist’s career.” The game will be played from a first-person perspective, and according to the trailer, players will have access to the iconic whip to not only solve puzzles and manoeuvre platforms but also take down foes in combat. Indiana Jones will be voiced by BioShock and The Last of Us voice actor Troy Baker. The game is set to release sometime later this year.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Release Date Announced

Years after its announcement, Ninja Theory and Xbox have finally announced the release date for its anticipated action-adventure sequel. Hellblade 2 will be released on May 21, 2024, for the Xbox Series X/S and PC. We also got a new trailer during the Xbox Direct presentation, showcasing more of the game’s visuals, the improved complex motion capture, the all-new brutal combat system, audio design, and more.

Avowed Gets A Release Window

At today’s Xbox Direct, Obsidian Entertainment stepped onto the virtual stage to showcase more of its upcoming RPG, Avowed. The gameplay overview focused on the combat, showcasing weapons like the one-handed wand and dual-wield pistols, as well as an ability called Tanglefoot that stops enemies in their tracks. The game is scheduled to release in Fall 2024.

Ara: History Untold Deep Dive

Oxide Games, a team comprising of veterans from the Civilization series, provided a deeper dive into their upcoming strategy title, Ara: History Untold. The Xbox Direct presentation highlighted several key features of the game, such as a system that encourages players to “rule how you want to rule” by providing deep systems for exploration and making strategic choices. The game also promises access to different parts of history to give players from around the world an opportunity to play the game from their own unique perspective. The game will be released sometime this Fall for PC and Game Pass PC.

Square Updates on Visions of Mana

With Xbox and Square Enix’s budding partnership blossoming, the publisher took centre stage to share an update on Visions of Mana. The gameplay demo showcased the real-time combat, monster design, rideable mounts, and the score. Visions of Mana will be released this Summer for PC, PlayStation, and, for the first time, on Xbox platforms.
