How hard would it be to improve on perfection? That’s a question Naughty Dog set out to answer with The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which will be released on Jan 19, 2024, for the PS5.

According to critics, the Remastered is a home run and a worthy title for new players and returning fans who want to experience the post-apocalyptic masterpiece once again. The Last of Us Part II Remastered features improved visuals, several deleted early-development levels, a new survival mode, a revamped photo mode, and a guitar free play mode.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered Review Roundup

Here are some reviews and first-look articles for The Last of Us Part II Remastered from around the web. At the time of publishing this article, the score for this game was 92 on Opencritic and 91 on Metacritic.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered refines and improves a much misunderstood masterpiece. It’s hard not to be amazed at how good this game still looks, and it comes with a new mode and some behind the scenes stuff to enjoy. It’s not as big a step from the original release as TLOU Part 1 was, and so feels like a less noteworthy release, but the price for upgrading from PS4 is reasonable for what you get.

If you’re a fan of The Last Of Us then the upgrade is definitely worth it and if you haven’t played the original version then this is absolutely a game worth experiencing for the first time, even if it does have its flaws. We’d really like to see Naughty Dog make something new now, but as a de facto director’s cut this remaster is a lot more essential than many would’ve expected.

This is the most polished version of Naughty Dog’s vision, and it’s chocked full of content illustrating passion for the craft and a deep appreciation for the fans. If you already own the game and had fun with it the first time around, $10 is a reasonable entry price for a package that expands the ways you can enjoy TLOU P2

Overall, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered adds some additional visual flair to a game that didn’t really need any, but its new gameplay additions make it well worth the upgrade. The Lost Levels are a fun novelty, but No Return is the true star of the show.

I feel supremely confident in saying that for the millions of folks that already own The Last of Us Part 2 on PS4, the $10/£10 upgrade charge is a more than fair ask in terms of the sheer amount of frankly excellent content that you’re getting here – with the excellent No Return mode easily capable of being spun off into its own entity.

Regardless of if you’re experiencing the story for the first time, or returning for the $10 upgrade, this is the definitive version of one of the finest video games ever made. It’s worth playing for the story alone, but the No Return mode is an intense and fun addition that might keep you around longer than you expect.
