It’s September, and we can finally play Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield (unless the game is banned in the UAE), easily one of the most anticipated RPGs in a long time and one of Xbox’s premier titles this year.
Unsurprisingly, Starfield is not the only game to make the headlines this month. There is also NBA 2K24, Lies of P, Mortal Kombat 1, the Idris Elba-starring DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, and, of course, EA Sports FC 24 (or FIFA 24, colloquially speaking). As you can see, there is no shortage of the best games to play in Sep 2023.

Here are some of the best games to play in Sep 2023
Starfield
Genre: RPG | Release Date: September 6, 2023 | Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X/S
Over a decade in the making and the first new IP from Bethesda Game Studios in 25 years, the Xbox-exclusive Starfield is finally releasing on September 6 (or September 1 for early access buyers).
The game is set in 2330, where technological advancements have allowed humanity to venture beyond the solar system and settle into new planets, finally realizing the dream of becoming a spacefaring species. Players will join the Constellation, a group of space explorers seeking rare artefacts throughout the galaxy, taking them on wild and dangerous adventures.
The game promises unparalleled exploration, intricate RPG systems, over 1,000 planets to navigate, detailed shipbuilding, a newly refined combat system, and much more.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Genre: RPG | Release Date: September 6, 2023 | Platforms: PS5
With 12 classes and 11 races to choose from, both offering 46 subclasses and 31 subraces, respectively, and around 600 spells, an engaging D&D 5e ruleset-based turn-based combat, engaging story, and 4-player co-op, Larian Studios’ Baldur Gate 3 seems to be the RPG to watch out for this year.
The game was released for PC in August to high acclaim, smashing records to become one of the highest-rated games on Metacritic. The game will now release on the PS5 this month, with the Xbox version planned for later this year.
NBA 2K24
Genre: Basketball | Release Date: September 8, 2023 | Platforms: PC, Playstation, Xbox
Another year, another NBA release from 2K Games. This year, the game features Kobe Byrant as the cover athlete for NBA 2K24, which brings a new mode that allows fans to relive some of his early career triumphs and progress through his impressive journey from being a great shooter to being the greatest of all time.
Also included in the game is an upgraded MyPLAYER builder, revamped interior defence and dribble combo controls, and the return of the MyTEAM mode, which features a host of improvements, including an all-new salary cap mode.
Lies of P
Genre: Action RPG | Release Date: September 19, 2023 | Platforms: PC, Playstation, Xbox
This is the year when our beloved cartoon characters are getting reimagined in horrifically innovative ways. First, there was Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey, which turned the goofy bear into a bloodthirsty killer, and now there is Lies of P, a dark and grim take on Pinocchio.
Lies of P takes place in Krat – a once lively city poisoned by madness and bloodlust. As Geppetto’s puppet, Pinocchio must adapt and take up arms to face the horrors that have befallen the city.
NeoWiz’s Soulslike releases on September 19 for the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
Mortal Kombat 1
Genre: Fighting | Release Date: September 19, 2023 | Platforms: PC
It’s time to GET OVER HERE! After eleven Mortal Kombat games, Ed Boon has deemed it necessary that the franchise receives a reboot of sorts. Hence, Mortal Kombat 1 (not to be confused with the original Mortal Kombat) takes place in a new Mortal Kombat Universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang.
The game will feature a new fighting system, new game modes, and more brutal and gore-tastic fatalities. It will also feature a roster of new and returning characters and some surprising new entries such as Peacemaker, Omni-man and Homelander.
PayDay 3
Genre: 4-player Co-op FPS | Release Date: September 21, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox
After their shenanigans in Washington, DC, the legendary PayDay crew chose a retirement life and hoped to live a peaceful life from the wealth they had – ahem – “collected”. However, crime never pays, and the bill always comes due.
They are forced out of retirement to crush a threat due to their actions, and now the crew must move to New York City to put things back into place and show them who the real bosses are.
PayDay 3 is a four-player co-op shooter that allows players to intricately plan a heist, choose their loadout, and decide how they want to tackle immediate threats. They can either go guns blazing, or sneak in, or – like in most cases – wing it as the action unfolds on screen.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Genre: RPG | Release Date: September 26, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Phantom Liberty is the first DLC for CD Projekt Red’s highly acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077, and it invites players on a high-stakes mission of espionage and deceit to save the NUSA President. Along with Keanu Reeves, who returns once again to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand, Phantom Liberty also stars Idris Elba as Solomon Reed.
Unlike the original game, the DLC will be released exclusively on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
EA Sports FC 24
Genre: Football | Beta Dates: September 29, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch
After breaking up with FIFA last year, EA Sports continues its legendary football series, albeit under a new name – EA Sports FC.
This year’s title, EA Sports FC24, will feature a slew of improvements over FIFA 23, including new player animations thanks to the new HyperMotionV technology, the introduction of Playstyles that gives signature skills to talented players to make each player feel unique, and the inclusion of woman footballers in Ultimate Team where players can now create a hybrid build of both men and women players.
All of this is in addition to the upgrades to the Ultimate Team formula, a more prominent role for Agents in Player Mode, and the ability to micro-manage your club by hiring a backroom staff in Manager Mode.
That wraps up our list of best games to play in Sep 2023. Let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to either of these games.
