2023 is shaping up to be the best year for video games in a long while, and the month of October is one reason why. With some of the most anticipated games ahead, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Alan Wake 2, Forza Motorsport, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and more, we are in for some truly good times.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Genre: Action-Adventure | Release Date: October 5, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Scaled back, smaller in size, and more focused, Ubisoft claims that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is designed to return to the roots of the classic Assassin’s Creed games that made it a beloved franchise.

Set in 9th-century Baghdad, players take on the role of Basim, a street thief plagued by nightmarish visions, who eventually stumbles upon an ancient organization called “The Hidden Ones”. With them, he learns their mysterious rituals and strong principles, hones their unique abilities and adopts a new creed – a creed that will change his fate in ways he could have never imagined.

Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition

Genre: Action-RPG | Release Date: October 6, 2023 | Platforms: PS5

Sony will be releasing Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition exclusively on PS5 on October 6, which will include the main game and the DLC, Burning Shores, for $69.99. The new edition will also be released on PC at a later date.

However, there is a possibility that the Complete Edition will not be available in the Middle East due to content in Burning Shores that goes against the values of the region.

Forza Motorsport

Genre: Racing| Release Date: October 10, 2023 | Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, GamePass

After Starfield, Xbox users can look forward to another massive exclusive on the platform: Forza Motorsport.

Developed by long-time Forza developers Turn 10 Studio, the game features over 500 vehicles and 20 thrilling tracks to burn rubber on. Each race will offer unique weather conditions and driving challenges to master, ensuring that every lap and every victory is earned.

Lords of the Fallen

Genre: Action RPG | Release Date: October 13, 2023 | Platforms: PC, Playstation, Xbox

Lords of the Fallen, not to be confused with 2014’s Lords of the Fallen (yeah, I know…), takes place a thousand years after the first game’s events. The demon God, Adyr, is finally defeated, but his resurrection draws nigh.

Players will once again embark on a journey as the Dark Crusaders, cleaving through the realms of the living and the dead in an RPG experience that promises to be five times larger than the original game and is brimming with rich storytelling, colossal boss battles, thrilling combat encounters, and interesting characters to meet.

Sonic Superstars

Genre: Platformer | Release Date: October 17, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch

It’s been a while since we have had a classic 2D Sonic game, so SEGA’s latest, Sonic Superstars, should scratch that itch quite well. Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy and harness all-new Emerald powers to move and attack in brand-new ways. The game takes place in the mystical Northstar Islands and will offer gorgeous, never-before-seen environments and challenges to master. You can journey solo or invite up to three other players to help stop Dr. Eggman, Fan, and a mysterious new adversary!

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Genre: Action Adventure | Release Date: October 20, 2023 | Platforms: PS5

Easily one of the most anticipated games of the year, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released exclusively for the PS5 and promises to offer another comic book adventure with our friendly neighbourhood webheads.

Peter Parker and Miles Morales are now well-settled in their roles as Spider-Man, and just as things are going well, they have a new problem to contend with. Kraven The Hunter has set eyes on New York City and seemingly wants to capture all previous villains to harness their power and use it for nefarious purposes. And if Kraven wasn’t enough, the two Spider-Men will also have to deal with Venom.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature new gameplay mechanics, new abilities and powers, and the option for switching between the two Spider-Men.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Genre: Platformer | Release Date: October 20, 2023 | Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Super Mario Bros. Wonder returns to its classic 2D platforming roots and turns it up a notch or two. The introduction of the Wonder Flower promises significant changes to the gameplay, allowing complete character transformation (Elephant Mario!) and bringing the environment to life.

Along with Mario, players can also play as Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Yoshi, Luigi and Toad. You can adventure solo or invite up to three other players in both couch co-op and online!

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

Genre: Stealth Adventure | Release Dates: October 24, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch

If you have never experienced Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series, here’s your chance to dive into the complex and politically charged stealth adventure franchise in its most modern adaptation yet.

The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 features remasters of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Snake’s Revenge, and more. Each game will target 1080p/60fps on consoles, while the Nintendo Switch version will run at a resolution of 720p/30fps in handheld mode and 1080p/30fps in docked mode.

Ghostrunner 2

Genre: Action | Release Dates: October 26, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

The fast-paced action series is back, and this time around, it promises to offer improved combat, complex motorcycle sections, interactive boss battles, new ways to defeat enemies, diverse level designs, and a new range of enemy types.

Alan Wake 2

Genre: Horror | Release Dates: October 27, 2023 | Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Another hotly anticipated title this year is Remedy’s long-awaited sequel, Alan Wake 2.

The titular writer, still trapped in a nightmarish alternate reality, tries to retain his sanity as he once again attempts to escape his mental prison. Meanwhile, FBI agent Saga Anderson is dealing with a string of ritualistic murders that threaten the small town of Bright Falls.

With two separate realities seemingly interconnected and affecting the worlds around them, Alan Wake 2 offers a horrifying new tale that promises to be as dark and psychedelic as the original.
