Samsung reportedly tested a 7,000mAh Galaxy S27 Ultra battery and then backed away from it. The current development target is 5,700–6,000mAh, a jump made possible by silicon-carbon cell tech, according to Korean leaker kro via Android Authority.
The 7,000mAh cell was one of five battery configurations Samsung is said to have tried for the S27 Ultra. Getting that much capacity in reportedly meant dropping the S Pen and its silo to free up space — a significant departure for a line that has treated the stylus as a defining feature. There is no independent confirmation any such unit was built.
The more conservative target still represents a real step forward. The Galaxy S Ultra line has carried a 5,000mAh battery since 2020, even as rivals including vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi have pushed recent flagships well past 6,000mAh. Kro’s X post lays out the trade-off behind the numbers.
The battery is currently being developed in the 5,700-6,000mAh range. The downside of using a silicon-carbon anode is that its battery lifespan can be lower than that of a conventional lithium-ion battery, so they’re currently trying to find the optimal balance between battery capacity and longevity.
