FX is adding Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brendan Gleeson, Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell and Jamie Demetriou to its Far Cry TV show, expanding the cast of the upcoming anthology based on Ubisoft’s game series. The new actors join previously announced stars Rob McElhenney, Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi, although the production is keeping their roles under wraps.

IGN reports that the series is heading towards production. The Hollywood Reporter says the five new additions have all joined the project, with FX Productions handling the series.

Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brendan Gleeson in Far Cry cast announcement

Far Cry TV show cast keeps its roles secret

Leigh, Gleeson, Linklater, Spruell and Demetriou are the latest names attached to the Far Cry TV show. No character details have been announced for any of them, and the series does not yet have a release date.

Leigh, Linklater and Spruell have previously worked with Noah Hawley on Fargo or Legion. Gleeson recently appeared in Spider-Noir, while Demetriou is known for Only Murders in the Building and has an upcoming role in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice adaptation.

The new announcement follows the earlier confirmation that Far Cry will use an anthology format, with each season expected to introduce a new setting and cast. Steve Buscemi was previously added to the ensemble, alongside McElhenney and Caplan.

What the Far Cry TV show will adapt

The series is being developed by Noah Hawley and McElhenney, who are also executive producers. Rather than adapting one game directly, the Far Cry TV show will follow the franchise’s anthology idea: each season can tell a separate story in a different location with new characters.

That leaves the production with plenty of room to avoid choosing one game’s cast of villains and protagonists. It also means there is no confirmed role for any of the newly announced actors yet. FX and Hulu are attached to the project, but a premiere date has not been set.
