Playground Games has released a new story trailer for Fable, confirming that the upcoming open-world RPG will launch on Feb 23, 2026.
The trailer debuted during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 and introduced Isabel, the game's primary villain, played by Hayley Atwell. The British-American acor is best known for playing Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and for her more recent appearances in the Mission: Impossible films.
The new Fable will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5. It will also launch through Xbox Game Pass on day one, support Xbox Play Anywhere and be available through Steam.
Hayley Atwell Plays Fable’s Main Villain, Isabel
Atwell plays Isabel, also known as the Hero of Wraithmarsh. She is described as a powerful Hero driven by grief and a desire to correct a tragic injustice, although her methods have placed her at odds with the player’s character and her former guardian, Humphry.
The trailer establishes Isabel as more than a straightforward antagonist. Her speech suggests that she genuinely believes she is doing the right thing, even if her pursuit of justice causes further damage across Albion.
According to Playground Games Associate Narrative Director Craig Owens, Atwell was chosen for the role because of her ability to combine vulnerability with strength. Her performance appears set to provide the central conflict in the reboot’s story.
Jack of Blades Is Returning to Fable
The trailer also ends with a brief tease for Jack of Blades, one of the most recognisable villains from the original Fable.
Jack played a major role in the first game, although Playground Games has not yet explained how the character will fit into its reimagined version of Albion. His appearance suggests that the reboot will draw from the original series without simply retelling the same story.
The new footage also included more of the series’ familiar blend of fantasy adventure and British humour, with action sequences involving a Balverine, magic-based combat and a giant toad receiving an undignified introduction to the ground.
Fable Premium Edition Includes Five Days of Early Access
Players who purchase the Fable Premium Edition will be able to begin playing on February 18, five days before the standard release.
The Premium Edition includes the full game, a digital artbook and soundtrack, cosmetic armour sets, a collection of in-game gifts and access to the post-launch Fable: Order of the Hero expansion.
A Collector’s Edition is also available. It includes the Premium Edition content alongside physical extras such as a statue, hardcover artbook, steelbook case and lapel pin.
Players who pre-order any edition will receive a chicken suit cosmetic outfit, maintaining the series’ long-standing commitment to making its heroes look slightly ridiculous whenever possible.
Playground Games Is Building a New Version of Albion
The reboot is being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the Forza Horizon series. Rather than continuing directly from the older games, it is designed as a fresh beginning for the franchise.
Players will explore an open-world version of Albion as the first Hero to emerge in a generation. Combat will allow players to combine melee weapons, ranged attacks and magic, while the returning reputation system will shape how villagers respond to the player’s actions.
The game will also retain the life-simulation elements that helped define the original series. Players will be able to earn money through jobs, buy property, pursue relationships and start families, while their decisions influence how the wider world views them.
Fable was previously expected to arrive in autumn 2026 before being moved into a less crowded release window. It will now launch on February 23, 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
