Disney and TikTok strike a first-of-its-kind short-form video deal

Disney and TikTok have signed a first-of-its-kind deal bringing fan-made videos to Disney+ — and Disney characters to TikTok creators.

Disney and TikTok have signed a first-of-its-kind deal that will bring curated, fan-made TikTok videos to Disney+ — and give TikTok creators characters and scenes from hundreds of Disney films and series to work with.

What the deal includes

TikTok creators will get access to assets from Disney brands including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and FX. Videos from participating creators will live on both TikTok and Disney+, where they appear under a Verts tab — the vertical video feed Disney+ launched on mobile in the US earlier this year. It is the first time TikTok videos have been shown on another platform, per Reuters.

The pilot starts in the US in the coming months, with other markets to follow. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Disney+ is not alone in chasing vertical video: Peacock and Paramount+ offer vertical series, and Netflix has Clips, its short-form TikTok-style feature.

Why TikTok

The deal leans on numbers only TikTok has. Fans shared an average of 6.5 million film- and TV-related posts a day last year, and nearly half of surveyed viewers said they watched a movie or TV show after discovering related content on TikTok.

“The best storytellers are fans first,” said Asad Ayaz, Disney’s chief marketing and brand officer. “This collaboration creates a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity they inspire.”

TikTok’s Dawn Yang called it the authentic creator expression of the TikTok community arriving on Disney+. The two companies also launched a Disney Creator Ambassador Program, with rewards, exclusive events and career-development pathways for top creators.

The deal that wasn’t

It is a reversal of Disney’s earlier plan for Verts: the company had been expected to fuel the feed with user-generated AI content under its OpenAI partnership, cancelled earlier this year. The TikTok deal fills that void with human-made fan content instead, as What’s On Disney Plus observed.

For UAE viewers

There is no date for the UAE. The pilot is US-only for now, and Disney has not said which markets follow. Disney+ is available in the region, and TikTok’s local footprint is sizeable — it adds Dhs 4 billion to the UAE economy and supports 7,000 jobs.

What is Verts on Disney+?

Verts is Disney+’s vertical short-form video feed, launched on mobile in the US earlier in 2026. Under the TikTok deal, it will carry curated fan-made videos featuring Disney characters and scenes.

When will the Disney TikTok deal reach the UAE?

No date has been confirmed. The pilot starts in the US in the coming months, and Disney says other markets will follow, but it has not named them or given timing.

Which Disney brands are included in the deal?

Creators get access to assets from hundreds of Disney films and series, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and FX.
