ChatGPT prompt share fell from 70% to 50% of US AI prompt volume between January and June 2026, according to Comscore, while Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude took a larger slice of the activity.

The figures come from Comscore’s Q2 2026 AI Intelligence Report, released on 22 September. Gemini’s share rose from 17% to 30%, while Claude moved from 2% to 11%. The figures measure prompt volume, not website visits or referrals, and cover Comscore’s US panel data.

ChatGPT prompt share is falling, but reach is still growing

ChatGPT remains the largest assistant in the report. Comscore says it reached 168 million desktop conversations in June, while its multiplatform visitation increased to 99 million from 59 million a year earlier. The falling share therefore reflects a wider market as much as a retreat by OpenAI’s chatbot.

Comscore’s report also says AI-assistant adoption is growing faster on mobile than desktop. Adoption was up 12% on mobile and 25% on desktop from the start of 2025, according to the company’s release. The wording refers to the report’s indexed adoption figures, not a 12% or 25% share of all users.

Gemini and Claude turn AI assistants into a multi-platform market

Google’s Gemini accounted for 30% of prompt volume in June, while Claude reached 11%. PPC Land’s analysis notes that the two services added 22 percentage points between them, although the measurement does not show why individual users switched or how often they use several assistants.

That split matters to companies building content, customer support and advertising plans around AI answers. A strategy designed around ChatGPT alone may still reach the biggest service, but it no longer describes the whole category. Tbreak’s earlier look at how 11 AI systems handled an Emirati prompt offers a local example of how outputs can differ between assistants.

The figures do not provide a UAE market share, and they do not show which assistant sends the most traffic to publishers. They do show that users are spreading their prompts across more services, leaving brands with a broader set of systems to monitor. For background on how these tools are changing, see Tbreak’s ChatGPT Agent explainer.

Does Comscore’s data show ChatGPT is losing users?

No. ChatGPT’s share of prompt volume fell while its desktop conversations and multiplatform visitation grew. The data points to a larger market, not a simple collapse in ChatGPT usage.

Can these figures be applied directly to the UAE?

No. The report measures Comscore’s US panel data. UAE brands can use it as a warning that assistant coverage is broadening, but it does not provide a UAE market-share ranking.

What should brands do as AI assistant use fragments?

Track how their products and content appear across ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude instead of treating one assistant as the discovery channel. The report does not establish which service delivers the most referrals.
