ChatGPT, Claude and Grok hit simultaneous outage

ChatGPT, Claude and Grok all reported service problems on September 3, affecting different parts of the three AI platforms. OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI each listed incidents on their status pages, while users reported trouble accessing their services.

ChatGPT Claude Grok outage affects separate services

9to5Mac reported that ChatGPT and Codex problems affected web, mobile and desktop users. OpenAI’s status incident began at 10:58am PT and was moved to monitoring at 11:50am PT after the company applied a mitigation.

Anthropic’s Claude status page listed elevated errors across multiple models, including Opus 4.8 and Opus 5. The incident affected claude.ai, the Claude API, Claude Code and Claude Cowork. Anthropic said the remaining models had returned to their baseline error rate, while Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 were still affected in its latest update.

Grok outage was listed separately

xAI’s Grok web status page reported a models outage beginning at 9:30am EDT. Its update said Grok was experiencing issues and that the team was working to restore the service. A separate status entry also listed the issue for Grok in X.

The ChatGPT Claude Grok outage reports appeared on the same day, but the status pages do not establish a common technical cause. The affected components and update times also differ, so the outages should be treated as separate service incidents rather than one confirmed failure.
