Capcom Wants a New Resident Evil Every Year, With Veronica Due in 2027

Capcom producer Masachika Kawata says remakes support yearly Resident Evil releases, with Resident Evil Veronica planned for sometime in 2027.

What has Capcom committed to?

Capcom has set annual Resident Evil releases as a strategic goal, but it has not promised that a new game will arrive every calendar year.

In comments reported by Vice, Kawata said producing a new mainline entry every year would be difficult. Revisiting older games allows the publisher to pursue a steadier schedule while its teams continue developing larger numbered instalments.

Kawata described remakes as “just as important” as mainline titles. Capcom released Resident Evil games annually between 2019 and 2023, but that run was followed by two years without a new release.

YearResident Evil release
2019Resident Evil 2
2020Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Resistance
2021Resident Evil Village
2022Resident Evil Re:Verse
2023Resident Evil 4
2024–2025No new release
2026Resident Evil Requiem
2027Resident Evil Veronica planned

The release history shows why remakes are central to the plan. Capcom can alternate established games with more time-consuming mainline projects, but its recent gaps show that the annual cadence is not yet established practice.

When is Resident Evil Veronica coming out?

Resident Evil Veronica is planned for sometime in 2027, although Capcom has not announced an exact release date.

Kawata identified Veronica as the next remake. It is a modern remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the Dreamcast game released in 2000, with Capcom using the shortened Resident Evil Veronica name for the new version.

The comments move the project beyond the earlier leak stage covered in our report on the Code Veronica remake rumour. However, the 2027 window currently rests on the producer’s on-record comments rather than a standalone corporate press release.

Why are remakes central to Capcom’s plan?

Remakes give Capcom a way to pursue yearly Resident Evil releases while its teams spend longer developing new mainline games.

Kawata said the resulting commercial cycle helps fund future Resident Evil projects and original properties such as Pragmata. It also lets development teams revisit older work while building experience for later projects.

That focus leaves little room for spinoffs such as Revelations or Outbreak. Kawata said the teams are concentrating their efforts on new entries such as Requiem and on remakes, making another spinoff unlikely in the near term.

Capcom is also developing story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem starring Leon Kennedy, but the source gives no release date for that expansion. Beyond the planned Veronica remake, the annual-release goal does not yet provide a confirmed schedule for subsequent games.
