Almost 97 minutes of footage from Avalanche Studios’ cancelled Iron Man game has leaked online, captured from a PlayStation 3 dev kit. The recordings were posted to the Internet Archive on 23 August and spread through Reddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumours — the first moving images of the project anyone outside the studio had seen.
The uploader, a dev kit collector who recently posted GTA V build and Rockstar Agent files, describes the clips as recordings of a restored build from one of his PS3 dev kits. Neither Avalanche nor Marvel has commented.

What the cancelled Iron Man game looked like
Eight videos, labelled dem1 through dem6 with two “e3” variants, run for 96 minutes and 56 seconds in total. The dev kit boots to a custom Iron Man theme stamped “TM & © 2012 Marvel” under the hostname “devtool”.
The footage is Just Cause with an arc reactor. Iron Man lifts off from open water and flies toward a target marker 3,360 metres out, across desert mountains that look nearly identical to Just Cause 2’s Panau. A ground mission runs through a base of shipping containers and floodlights until a “SAM Site Destroyed!” notification pops. He fights jets and attacks facilities in the red-and-gold movie armour, and the flight animation looks far more finished than a build this early should.
The environments were at least semi-destructible: Iron Man throws soldiers through walls, carves shortcuts through buildings and tears structures apart. The longest clip, an unfinished E3 demo, shows hand-to-hand combat in a heavy, Arkham-style mould alongside repulsors and missiles.

Why Disney killed the game
Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg first revealed the cancelled Iron Man game in a 2022 MinnMax interview, per Cosmic Book News. Disney approached the Just Cause studio, the game spent roughly two years in development in Stockholm, and Disney and Marvel pulled the plug around 2012 over what he called “company politics”.
Disney wanted a year cut from the schedule, which would have meant hiring 70 to 80 developers Avalanche had no next project for. Sundberg said agreeing would have “broken the studio completely”. He would not confirm whether the compressed timeline was about hitting Iron Man 3’s 2013 release.
He described Arkham-style melee, repulsor blasts and the ability to take off and fly anywhere. That is what the clips show.

Not the EA Iron Man game
This is not the single-player Iron Man game Motive Studio has been developing since EA announced it in September 2022. That project is separate and, per everything EA has said, still in production — the company reaffirmed it when it cancelled Black Panther and closed Cliffhanger Games.
Nor is it the early-2000s Xbox prototype, The Invincible Iron Man, that a former Genepool Software developer surfaced in 2024. Between the three of them, three Iron Man games exist that nobody has been able to play. Footage of dead projects keeps surfacing: tbreak has covered cancelled Doom 4 concept art and the possible cancellation of Marvel’s Blade.
Is EA’s Iron Man game still in development?
Yes. Motive Studio’s single-player Iron Man game was announced in September 2022, is being built on Unreal Engine 5, and EA reaffirmed it as a priority when it cancelled Black Panther and closed Cliffhanger Games. It is unrelated to the Avalanche footage.
Why did Disney cancel Avalanche’s Iron Man game?
Disney and Marvel pulled the plug around 2012. Co-founder Christofer Sundberg blamed “company politics”, and said Disney wanted a year cut from the schedule — which would have meant hiring 70 to 80 developers the studio had no next project for.
Where can I watch the leaked Iron Man footage?
All eight videos, totalling almost 97 minutes, are hosted on the Internet Archive under the identifier ironmanavalanche. They are recordings of a restored build from a PlayStation 3 dev kit.
