Glass iPhone 2027: Apple’s 20th-Anniversary Redesign Still on Track

Apple is still planning the glass-heavy iPhone overhaul expected for the device’s 20th anniversary in 2027, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman — pushing back on a Jefferies report that said the project had been cancelled.

The analyst firm downgraded Apple’s stock on Monday, with analyst Edison Lee citing supply-chain checks that suggested the all-glass design had been scrapped over manufacturing yields. Bloomberg’s people familiar with the matter tell a different story.

Gurman reports that the 2027 iPhone Pro models — known internally as V73 and V74 — will use glass on the front and back, with the panels curving into the sides around a thin metal band. The curved display is said to make the bezels look thinner from the front. It follows years of material experiments on the Pro line; most recently, leaked plans pointed to improved titanium alloys.

The report does concede one casualty. A more ambitious version championed by Apple’s design studio used even more glass and dropped the metal band entirely. It was scrapped early, after Apple hit problems joining the glass panels together at production volumes.

What it means

The 20th-anniversary iPhone has been tipped for more than a year as the biggest redesign in the device’s history, and it isn’t due until late 2027. This week’s argument is really about whether Apple’s suppliers are ready a year out — the phones themselves are not on sale yet.

The phones UAE buyers will actually see first arrive next month, when Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and a foldable Ultra. The glass iPhone is the one to wait for if you can wait a year.
