Anbernic’s RG 55G1 Android retro gaming handheld is now available to order, starting at $139.99 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model. The Switch Lite-shaped device uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 chip, a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a 6,000mAh battery.

The official Anbernic product page lists the base configuration at $139.99, reduced from $149.99, with a $10 launch discount shown for the first three days. The store offers 4GB/64GB and 8GB/128GB versions, plus optional 128GB and 256GB microSD cards. The highest configuration reaches $225, according to Engadget’s launch report.

Anbernic lists China and the US as shipping regions on the product page. UAE buyers will therefore need to account for delivery charges, VAT and any import fees. The base sale price converts to about AED 514 before those costs; the $225 version is about AED 826. The store displays US-dollar pricing rather than an AED total.

What the RG 55G1 can play

The handheld runs Android 14 and supports Android games alongside more than 20 emulator types. Anbernic says the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 system can handle retro platforms, while Engadget reports that the hardware should reach emulation of games from systems such as the PlayStation 2 and Wii. Actual performance will depend on the emulator, game, and settings, so the processor doesn’t guarantee every title will run perfectly.

The chip is paired with Qualcomm’s Adreno A12 GPU, active cooling and up to 8GB of RAM. The official specification sheet also lists Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, Hall-effect joysticks and triggers, a 3.5mm headphone port, a microSD slot supporting cards up to 2TB, and 18W charging.

The 339g console comes in black, retro grey and indigo. Anbernic claims up to eight hours of battery life, although that figure will vary with screen brightness, emulator load and wireless use. RGB lighting surrounds the analogue sticks, because apparently a retro console can never be entirely left in the past.

The RG 55G1 targets buyers who want a larger horizontal Android handheld than the smallest retro consoles, without moving up to the price or bulk of a Windows gaming handheld. Its closest practical comparison is a device such as the Steam Deck, although the two target different software libraries and performance levels.
