Packaged in a box that’s not too out of place for a high-end time piece, the GD910 comes bundled with its charger, a bluetooth headset and small manual with a drivers CD. The charger clips on the watch and has an attachment to charge the bluetooth headset simultaneously. Your SIM card is inserted by rotating the back size of the watch- very much the place you would normally put a watch battery in.

As a phone, the GD910 is pretty basic in functionality. It has 80MB of memory and supports your basic functionality such as text messages, a contacts database, calculator, memos etc- pretty much everything that a non-Smartphone is capable of. It even has a front-facing camera that can be used to take picture or make Video calls using HSDPA but other than video calling, you wont be using any other functionality of this high speed network as there is no application that can utilize data.

What sets the GD910 apart is the 1.43″ capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 128×160 pixels. On the right side, you have three buttons- the top one acts as your green button on a mobile phone while the bottom one acts as the red one. The center button is more or less a “back” button. These three buttons along with the brilliant capacitive touch screen makes using the GD910 pretty intuitive and impressive considering its size. Instead of talking about it, the following video will show you how fluid the interface is and how easy it is to navigate.

As you saw, entering numbers on the keypad works surprisingly well. Even writing text messages with the T3 is quite easy and LG does a smart thing by not including things like Email as I cant imagine reading or writing a long one on it. You do have basic organizing functionality like a calendar, memos, stop watch, word time and a calculator.

The biggest inconvenience of the GD910 is that in order to have a private conversation, you need a bluetooth headset. While its fun to talk into the watch for the first few calls, the novelty is lost pretty soon along with your privacy. I personally am not a fan of headsets because thats another thing you need to make sure is charged. Also,  I have somewhat big ears and can never find a headset that’s comfortable for more than five minutes. If you are comfortable with a headset, then I see no issue with using the GD910 as your primary phone. LG bundles the phone with a headset that works just fine although is a bit bigger in size compared to many of the new headsets available in the market.

Battery life of the GD910 isn’t too bad. You should be able to get almost two days out of a single charge on the 510mAh battery. I didn’t use the phone extensively but managed to get three days so average use should take you through two days. Charging does take a while but like most mobile phones, you would probably do that overnight while you catch sleep.

The pricing on the GD910 is its scariest aspect- it will set you back AED 4399 (about US$ 1,200). I don’t think any mobile phone can justify that price tag but unfortunately, thats how it is in the technology world. You always pay excess for getting the latest/greatest gadget- and the GD910 certainly is the first of its kind in the UAE. It’s an incredibly cool gadget.
