Stuck for some tech ideas this festive season? We’ve got your back.

Cameras

You can’t celebrate the festive season and still be taking photos with your 5 megapixel smartphone camera. So why not splurge a bit this month and get a camera that you can be proud of?

Sony Cybershot Digital Camera RX100 – AED 2,600

There are very few point-and-shoot cameras that we’ve looked at that even come close to Sony’s RX100. A compact camera that boasts some incredible photos even in low light, the RX100 is great for anyone who doesn’t want to carry a bulky DSLR around but still wants superb looking photos every time.
Second choice: Nikon V1 – AED 4,600

Desktops

If you’re a traditionalist and still enjoy the many merits of having a desktop PC, then you’ll find that things have changed in recent years. While traditional ‘tower’ desktops are still available, the market now offers the All-In-One PC, mini-towers, and other compact PCs that are no larger than a CD case.

ZOTAC Zbox nano AD12 Plus – AED 1,400

ZOTAC are known for their tiny little PCs, but the Zbox Nano AD12 Plus takes the cake. This tiny unit is perfect for hiding away in your living room and will handle most of your media needs with ease. Whether it’s streaming HD clips or just browsing the web, the Zbox Nano AD12 Plus is a great (and tiny) media PC that is perfect for home or casual business use. Plus it’s small enough to get into someone’s stocking!
Second choice: Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 – AED 6,999

Speaker systems

What’s a party without some great music? These are some amazing speaker systems that you can invest in, and some truly terrible ones that promise zero bang for your buck. Fortunately, here’s two that will certainly have you humming a happy tune.

Jabra SOLEMATE Bluetooth Portable Speaker – AED 749

Despite its somewhat innocent appearance, the Jabra SOLEMATE Bluetooth Portable Speaker delivers some truly phenomenal audio for its pint-sized footprint. The speaker is ridiculously easy to connect to via Bluetooth or line-in, and can keep a party going for about 7 hours non-stop before you need to recharge it. It’s quality design and performance makes it a handy little addition to any party on the go. Plus the sultry “Go ahead and connect me” voice is just an added bonus.
Second choice: Panasonic SC-HC37 Stereo System – AED 600

For the Young Adult

Teens can be notoriously hard to shop for, so hopefully you can find something in stores that they won’t immediately hate or try to sell off on eBay.

Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 – AED 1,499

While we’d all like to live super-secret spy lives like James Bond, for most of us we’ll have to make do with watching re-runs of the films. Well now you can at least pretend to be somewhat of a spy with the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0. This quadrocopter is a geek and spy dream, capable of capturing 720p video while the device is in flight. Controllable via a simple app, the AR.Drone 2.0 is a great little gadget that is certainly more than just a toy.
Second choice: Apple iPod Touch (2012) – AED 1,200
