Emirates serving Win 8 powered tablets to crew and passengers

In what can be seen as a prolific win for Microsoft, it seems that world renown Emirates Airlines will be using a custom app developed for Windows 8 to get feedback from passengers as well as letting the crew members onboard a flight to customize the experience of travelers suited to their preferences.

The app, known as Knowledge Driven Inflight Service (KIS), will basically allow Emirates to monitor passenger preferences and history as well as giving any instructions to the crew prior to the flight for any requirements. The information is then sent to Emirates directly upon the landing of the flight, which helps Emirates grow their database and help anticipate customer needs for their next flight.

Obviously no ordinary Windows 8 based tablet will do for such an exclusive service, and hence the HP Elitepad 900 was chosen to be the standard bearer. The current rollout of 100 units is expected by the end of January, next year, while the whole of 2013 will see 1000 more units. Basically by the end of 2013 every Emirates flight will have a KIS loaded Elitepad 900 running Windows 8.
