We talk about what’s bringing in the shoppers at this year’s GITEX.

Jumbo Electronics are certainly making a splash at GITEX, drawing shoppers to their stand to revel in the various deals and offers on show. In between all off the frenzy, I caught up with newly appointed CEO of Jumbo Electronics Vishesh Bhatia, to find out exactly what makes the company tick and what’s in store this GITEX Shopper.

What are some of the new products you’re showcasing during GITEX?
Amongst the new products, we have Sony’s new 84 inch Bravia television which is generating great excitement. The other new product in the smartphone category which is creating buzz is the Samsung Galaxy Note II.

You’ve said recently that you’ve experienced 35% increase in sales on the first two days of GITEX – what are your hottest selling deals?
Apple tablets, Samsung phones, Sony Vaio and HP laptops, and Sony TV’s are amongst the most popular products at the moment. We are also giving our customers other offers such as a free bundle on Apple iPads of a Sennhieser head set, Scoche portable speakers, Carry case, and screen protector is proving to be a fantastic hit and amongst the greatest offers this Gitex.

GITEX Shopper has a new venue this year – what’s your feedback to the new location?
The new location of the Gitex Shoppers has really worked for us. It is a middle ground for old and new dubai, and not in one corner of the city like the Airport Expo last year. This way, we are guaranteed that visitors from all over Dubai will definitely be visiting us this year. There is also plenty of parking around the new venue which will also drive customers to come to Gitex, as customers will not be getting stuck in traffic anymore.

There are a lot of other retailers and offers on show at GITEX, how are you able to stay ahead of the competition?
Under the banner “Jumbo is Gitex”, we have the best offers in the market combined with great giveaways. There are a number of giveaways including tablets, accessories, speakers, carry cases and more. These offers combined with the best after-service for our products is what is helping us stay ahead of the competition.

GITEX was once just all about computer hardware and software, but over the years has evolved to include new categories such as smartphones and other home appliances. What is your take on the way the show has changed over the years?
The evolution of the Gitex shopper to what it is now is definitely a positive one. The shift in emphasis has ensured that it reaches out to as many customers as it can. The UAE consumer is a tech savvy one and is always looking for the best deals in not only computer hardware and softwares, but also in consumer electronics, making Gitex the perfect event for all. From being a niche, the show now caters to a wider audience, which is a win-win situation for Jumbo, as well as our customers.

Online shopping and e-commerce sites have soared in the region, will Jumbo be offering an online shopping portal soon?
Jumbo is considering investing in developing an e-com portal of its own, which will offer consumers the power of online shopping and an extended in-store shopping experience. Focused at delivering the complete buying experience, Jumbo is looking to capitalize through online pre & post-sales support, comprehensive product information and support the ultimate touch and feel gratification through its large retail network.
