Apple is actually being nice?!?
Only a few hours after it was reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook apologized for the many issues plaguing their unloved Maps app, the company has added a new featured section to the App Store highlighting some alternative maps apps for the iPhone and iPad.
Currently the list features 13 apps for the iPhone and 8 apps for the iPad, ranging from free to 99 cents to $49.99. Sadly though, when this user checked the UAE App Store, there was no such contrite offering for us. Users will have to go to the US or UK App Store to check out the new section for now.
However, this is still a surprising and dare I say ‘humble’ move for Apple and perhaps shows that it is taking criticism for the maps debacle seriously. And while directing users to the App Store still benefits the company, CEO Cook in his letter, also promoted web-based alternatives such as Google’s and Nokia’s maps.
