Microsoft’s genius patent application: Slap your phone into quiet submission

Everyone goes why didn’t I think of this first?

It’s happened to all of us. You are in the middle of an interview/movie/funeral and your phone suddenly starts ringing. Red faced, you fumble with the villainous device and try to shut it off, but your fingers are all sweaty or you can’t remember your unlock password or it’s in the pocket of your much too-tight pants.

You finally get the phone out to switch it off… but it’s too late. Everyone already thinks you are scum.

If the situation sounds familiar, then Microsoft might be coming to the rescue. Patentbolt reports that a new Microsoft invention published by the US Patent Office this week explains how you’ll one day be able to silence your device by simply ‘whacking it off’ (their words, really).

With this ‘Whack based audio control module’, a simple slap, whack, tap or whatever you’d like to call it and your phone goes quiet. Simple. Genius. And whacky. Somebody put this into a Windows phone now.
