Style & substance in one luxurious package.
Infiniti’s recent designs have all been rather curvy, and while generally curves on a car are never a bad thing, there’s only so much you can do with such a design aesthetic. Applied to SUVs like their QX and JX models, the results aren’t so appealing to the eye. With the new M sedan, however, Infiniti has pretty much nailed the design.
At first glance the M56 Sport looks like an expanded version of the G37, but look at it for more than 2 seconds and you’ll realize some very juicy design cues. The blacked out headlights and the large grill in the front setup the motion in which the general design will roll backwards.
The hood has just enough bulge to signify that sitting underneath it is an incredibly powerful V8, while the wide sweeps behind the headlights that extend out to the fenders and then literally flow backwards, and again expand above the rear wheel arches, gives the M56 Sport a very majestic and powerful stance.
The 20-inch 5s-spoke wheels fill the arches very nicely, maintaining the muscular look from the sides. Even the windows that start out large from the front arch back down along the sloping roofline, but pick up from the bottom at the C and D pillars.
From the back it seems that everything that started out from the front was stitched close a little hastily. Perhaps the trunk protruding at the end could have been more angled, and the taillights given circular lights (like the G sedan), because the double ‘C’ arches with LEDs look a bit tacky.
While it’s not exactly old school mentality, the new Infiniti M56 Sport is the perfect combination of bold curves and perfectly proportioned body segments that not only gives it a very muscular look, but also makes it intensely elegant at the same time.
