Mystery website urges users to upgrade their browser.
A website called “Go Dar For IE” is trying to get PC users to upgrade their versions of Internet Explorer, in a bid to help ease the pain for developers to code for older browsers.
The website is calling for websites to “go dark” for any users who aren’t using at least Internet Explorer 9, but the site also has links pointing to other browsers such as Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. The website’s plan is “To get websites to go dark on October 26, 2012 to users of Internet Explorer below version 9.” As if by coincidence, October 26th just happens to be the day when Windows 8 goes public to consumers.
It’s unsure if this is some kind of marketing ploy by Microsoft, but the company has yet to make any indication that they’re affiliated with the site in any way. You can read more about the initiative at godarkforie.org
