The (almost) perfect SUV for large families and long road trips.

Good: Roomy, comfortable & luxurious interior; Loads of Driver Assists help in a smooth ride; Navigation and other tech very easy to use; decently powerful engine and CVT gear provides better than average fuel efficiency.
Bad: Exterior styling may not be to everyone's liking; All the Driver Assists make the drive feel a bit too automated.
Price: AED (under) 200K

The Infiniti JX35, as the name implies, is powered by 3.5-liter V6 that makes 265HP @ 6,400RPM and 336Nm torque @ 4,400RPM. Pretty much the same VQ35 used by Nissan and Infiniti in range of their other cars. That’s just about enough to send the 2-ton hulking JX from o to 100kmph in 8.1 seconds. Consider that it’s a family vehicle with loads of safety and comfort features, plus the 7-seater size, and speed isn’t exactly on top of the priority list.

Fuel efficiency, however, is an important aspect of such a vehicle and as such, the JX35 does decently with an average fuel consumption of 13L / 100km. Thanks to the CVT gearbox, there’s a lot of fuel efficiency that can be achieved, and the JX35 doesn’t disappoint.

Thing is, as soon as I started driving the JX, I didn’t feel like pushing the SUV. It just felt so comfortable, so ‘in its zone’ when I was simply cruising along the highway, or pulling away at a moderate speed from a signal. It’s a strange effect, but a welcome change from own Toyota 86, or some other big engined cars I’ve reviewed recently.

If you want a comfortable ride, both as far as driving mechanics are concerned as well you’re the needs of your passengers, than the Infiniti JX ticks pretty much all the boxes there are. It’s just about alright on power and fuel efficiency, looks aren’t so bad once you get used to them. In fact, after some time you’ll actually start liking the chunky looks. It’s a family car, it feels nice. For road trips, or daily drive for your kids, there are hardly any other SUVs in this price segment that come with so much tech and luxuries packed in, with loads of room to spare. The Infiniti JX35 will be out in showrooms soon and will retail for “well under AED 200K” according to Infiniti.

Such a pity that the new Pathfinder which is based on this car will lose its off-road capabilities – Smaller engine, CVT transmission, no low-range or locking centre differential.

Someone on their Facebook page called it the Mallfinder.
