A beautiful combination of style, power and performance.
The new Audi A4 has a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder powerplant that delivers 272HP @ 4780 – 6500rpm and 400Nm torque @ 2150 – 4780rpm. Coupled with the Quattro all-wheel drive system the 1.74-ton A4 S-Line is propelled from 0 to 100kmph in a blistering 5.5 seconds!
The turbocharger results in predictably sluggish performance, especially at highway speeds, when in normal driving mode, but switching to Sports mode changes the dynamics of the car incredibly. Both ‘D’ and ‘S’ mode have 7 gears, but the ratios are set more aggressively in the ‘S’ mode, resulting in a very eager and fun drive. Of course, the capable paddle shifters behind the steering wheel are more than capable of providing a great driving experience as well.
The Quattro drive system keeps the A4 in check on every turn, allowing you to push it in turns you would otherwise take very conservatively. In all honesty it’s the combination of the ‘S’ mode, coupled with the Quattro system that makes the new A4 an excellent driving experience, more so than all of its competitors. Under normal driving mode the A4 is very ladylike, all composed and comfortable, capable of being a respectable daily driver.
The engine has a very refined, but rather muffled sound, instead of rumble I was expecting from a turbocharged V6. The road noise was also surprising at highway speeds; our recently reviewed Passat was quieter than the A4.
At the end of the A4 provides an awesome combination of a decent daily driver with the performance aesthetics of a sports car. It’s fun to drive at the touch a button, while also being comfortable for the entire family whenever you need it to be. Both the design and performance of the 2013 A4 S-Line put it ahead of the BMW 335i, but starting at AED 43K lesser, there’s no other clear winner than the Audi A4.
