AMD plays second fiddle again.
Steam has just released their latest hardware survey that covers the period from Jan to June 2012, and the results, while being predictable, also show some interesting new trends.
For starters we see that Intel dominates the processor chart with a massive 72.03% share, compared to AMD’s 27.96%. On the graphics card front the results are more segregated, but in the top tier for DX 11 based cards both the Nvidia GTX 560 and GTX 460 take a lead with 4.49% and 2.39% share, while the AMD HD 5770 takes third place with 2.07%. It’s clear the mid-range cards reign supreme.
That said, the actual graphics card spread puts the Nvidia GTX 560 on top, but the Intel HD 3000 (integrated GPU) in second place. This means a whole lot of people are actually gaming on their laptops, which is why the second highest resolution used was 1366×768 with 18.31% share, while 1920×1080 came out the highest with 25.50% share.
Also interesting to note is that Google Chrome is installed on 11.56% of users, while Mozilla Firefox has the lead with 63.05% share.
In case Steam is blocked in your office, here’s the result sheet.
