Who says money doesn’t grow on trees?
It sounds like a ransom note from a long forgotten episode of Dastardly and Muttley. Or like a boxing match that no one is really watching.
In the latest round of struggles between Apple and Samsung, it’s rumored that Apple are calculating that Samsung owes them a cool $2.5 billion to settle the patent infringement case in the U.S. How so? Well over the four patents that Samsung is alleged to have broken the total cost is about $31.04, but a bulk of the $2.5b stems from Apple’s accusation that Samsung stole its iPhone and iPad designs when creating its own line of smartphones and tablets.
There have been a few victories between the two giants, with the most recent win being in Samsung’s favor – a judge in the UK ruled that Apple will be forced to run adverts on its homepage stating that Samsung didn’t copy Apple’s designs. But despite this small victory, Samsung faces bans on its products in certain countries, and Apple shows no sign of backing down from this fight.
