But is anyone really paying attention?
BlackBerry maker Research in Motion finally has a bit of good news. The company announced this week that the BlackBerry App World has hit 3 billion downloads, with a billion downloads in just the last six months, at about 2.5 million downloads a day.
But despite these seemingly impressive numbers, it’s nowhere close to the competition from Google’s Play store or the Apple App Store, which have been hitting record numbers in both app revenue as well as downloads – Apple only announced in March that it had hit 25 billion downloads, while Google came in with 20 billion downloads.
RIM has been suffering greatly recently, already posting a first quarter loss and things not looking to improve much in the coming quarter. The company hopes to shake things up with its Blackberry 10 OS, but there’s little hope that this might truly save the company, despite RIM’s overly positive expectations.
