AMD announced the launch of their professional graphics card, the FirePro W600. Aimed at airports, restaurants and other massive digital advert places, the FirePro W600 is capable of outputting 4K resolution image on 6 screens simultaneously, supporting two HD video streams.
“Whether we are checking flight times at the airport or watching the latest ads on massive screens in city squares, digital signage has quickly become an important and ubiquitous part of our lives,” said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager of AMD Graphics.
The FirePro W600 is based on the Graphics Core Next architecture, which also powers their current 28nm Radeon HD graphics cards. The single-slot card connects up to 6 displays via mini-Display ports and comes with 2GB GDDR5 memory and is priced at $599 (AED 2,400) . The idea is that the W600 will help companies by using multiple HD panels to stitch together one big image in high resolution, instead of using one big screen with low resolution.
Later in the year, AMD also plans to implement projection overlap projection overlap capability to create one seamless image, with planned support for projection edge blending and image warping, designed specifically for projectors.
