Will not compete with Facebook but features some unique capabilities.
Amidst all the hoopla of Facebook IPO, Microsoft quietly launched its own social network, but it’s not looking to compete with Facebook any time soon.
Dubbed So.cl, it’s an experimental research project that allows users to share content and browse through topics of interest. Users can also use the ‘bookmarklet’ feature to tag things they are interested in, and also create ‘video parties’ to queue and share interesting video clips.
The site is currently accepting registrations from users, allow people to login with their Facebook or Windows Live accounts. It’s unsure how Microsoft will evolve So.cl at a time where users are readily sharing information across dozens of existing social networks.
