The Purdue Society of Professional Engineers certainly take their work seriously. The team spent more than 5,000 hours constructing a Rube Goldberg machine to accomplish the simple task of blowing up and popping a balloon.

The machine performed over 300 steps including juicing an orange, toasting a slice of bread, peeling an apple, sharpening a pencil, and making a hamburger. In the process of course, the team smashed its own Guinness World Record amidst much celebration.
